Music ecosystems. Why do they matter?

In the ever-evolving music industry, robust support systems are crucial, especially as they surround and uplift musicians. In my work helping musicians and music organizations fund their creative and community programming, I've seen how crucial funding and technical support are in sustaining the music ecosystem that nurtures the current and next generation of talent. Conversely, the struggles are evident when funding falls short.

What does the music-ecosystem future look like to you?

At the core of the music ecosystem needs to be tailored support that meets musicians at various career stages—from budding artists to seasoned professionals keen to mentor others. Funding does more than sustain operations; it nurtures a thriving network that fosters intergenerational connections between artists and innovators. Adequate funding also ensures accessibility, removing barriers that many young artists face. It supports inclusive spaces where musicians from various backgrounds can interact, learn, and create together. Such initiatives are essential for both artistic growth and adapting to the industry's changes.

Name one other music-ecosystem builder that inspires you

One of my greatest inspirations as a music ecosystems builder is Daniel Lewis from The Lewis Prize for Music. His work to fund music education organizations who change systems and support music education as youth development is incredibly inspirational! My personal commitment to helping sustain a healthy music industry and music ecosystem is to connect musicians and music organizations with the funding, supporters, and technical skills they need to sustain their careers. I am grateful to be able to work alongside Grammy-winning musicians and incredible music organizations to make their dreams a reality.
